on my mind

Life is busy. Five little bodies are keeping me occupied. Some moments I enjoy the hectic life and other times I'm ready to pull my hair out. I have been thinking a lot about my priorities. Mainly, trying to ignore the things that pull me away from what's really important, the here and now. I am trying to focus on making memories and enjoying the spontaneity of life. Relishing in motherhood. Crumbs, laundry, diapers, all of it! Oh yes, it is sometimes easier said than done, but you already knew that.

Saturday

Earlier in the week Baden declared that Saturday would be "family fun day".   Even though we mowed, weeded and cleaned, it was OK because it was family fun day and we did everything together.  The day ended with a long (and breezy) bike ride and pizza.  I need to savor days like this because before I know it they'll be planning prom dates and scary stuff like that.  I think every Saturday will be family fun day.

The great escape.

I looked out my kitchen window Saturday afternoon and I noticed Chandler digging dirt in the garden area.  Then I saw him slip under the fence.  I hurried and grabbed my camera and am I ever glad I did!  This sequence has got to be the best I've ever captured.  His facial expressions are not to be beat.  First, the cautious I hope mom and dad aren't around, the I'm safe, the dang I've been caught and I'll be busted and finally the I'm probably going to be OK because mom is taking pictures and smiling.  Now, I know that it is common for people's dogs to dig a hole under the fence to escape, but it never occurred to me that children might attempt the same.  Is life really that confining around here?  Is everyone's Saturdays this entertaining?

It was a good day.

WHO BREAKS OUT THE SLIP AND SLIDE IN MAY WHEN IT'S 75 DEGREES OUTSIDE?
WE DO!

Happiness is found in the water and sun for my kids.

DINING AL FRESCO?  OUR FAVORITE!
The clean-up that awaits my better half upon his return from church meetings.  I love you dear :)

Kate's favorites.

Kate and I were enjoying this exceptionally beautiful day in the backyard this afternoon on the swings. I spontaneously started asking her favorite things questions and thought I'd better keep note of them.

What is your favorite thing to do? PLAY
What is your favorite song? I AM A CHILD OF GOD
What is your favorite food? SOUP
What is your favorite thing to wear? CLOTHES
What is your favorite smell? FOOD
What is your favorite show? I LOVE LUCY
What is your favorite color? PINK
What is your favorite thing about your world? TREES, I LOVE THEM. (she's a tree hugger and I didn't even know it!)

She was quick to answer as if she'd already thought of the answers to these deep questions...Very enlightening!

mommy & girls

It wasn't too long ago I didn't think I'd ever have any daughters. And now I have two. It makes me so happy. Oh, so happy. I love having boys, but little girls are so fun and they don't mind putting their church dress back on and posing for a picture with their momma.

I shared my favorite Mother's Day gift over on my sister's blog today.  Click on over here to read all about it.  She's had guest bloggers sharing Mother's Day gift ideas all week.  When you take a look at the line-up she's had you might wonder how I got roped into it.  Maybe she was desperate, or maybe she saved the best for last.  I'll never tell.

Faking it.

Chandler stayed home from school today with a "stomach ache".  By about 9:00 a.m. I had him all figured out.  I called his bluff and told him that he can't fool me.  And then, he smiled.  What's a mother to do? Well, this mother is going to let him finish that book that I am sure brought on the sudden illness.
We'll call it "Spring Fever."

(notice the bowl...I gave him that when I still thought he was legitimately sick)
